This Dunlin was spotted at Shelburne Bay Fishing Access for several days during late October.

Winter Birds Arriving in the Mad River Valley

It’s time for winter birds to start arriving in our beautiful Mad River Valley.  Look for Snow Buntings, Bohemian Waxwings, American Tree Sparrows, Pine Siskins, Common Redpolls and others.   Note the great camoflauge of this bird in the grass, really hard to see in the snow.

Perry Hill, Waterbury, Saturday, May 1

Meet at the parking lot just beyond the Ice Center in Waterbury to hike Perry Hill.  This was a new location last year, led by Graham Bates.   Wear sturdy footwear, bring a water bottle, and be prepared for an uphill hike.

Wu Ledges, May 2

Meet Mad Birders at Shaws in Waitsfield at 7:30 AM.  We will carpool to Jon and Amy Jamieson’s to hike the trails of this wooded area and perhaps find a raven nest.  Young birders are welcome.  There will be a potluck brunch at Pat Folsom’s following the walk.
