Spring Birding Begins!
Reports have come in from all around the Mad River Valley about new bird arrivals for the Spring. Red Winged Blackbirds, Robins, Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, and White Throated Sparrows are regularly being spotted. Winter Wrens have been heard singing and the first warbler, a Yellow Rumped Warbler, has been seen in Waitsfield.

Lake Champlain Day Sunday April 27, 2008
[ April 27, 2008; 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. ] Sunday, April 27. Meet at Shaws at 7:00 AM to carpool to Champlain Valley. Bring lunch, water, and snacks. Be prepared to spend the day birding in different locations near the lake. Wear waterproof footwear and layers. Last year Carl Bates spotted a Black-tailed Godwit, the first confirmed and documented in Vermont.
Woodcock Walk, Thursday evening, April 24, 2008
[ April 24, 2008; 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. ] Thursday, April 24 – 7:30 - 9:00 PM – Meet at Pat Folsom’s house (3681 East Warren Rd – 2 miles past Round Barn). We will look for male woodcocks performing their sky dance, part of an annual spring mating ritual that occurs at dawn and dusk. Dress for cool weather.
